Architecture is storytelling
Leadership behind the vision
Founded in 2016, make_ design studios brings themed environment design philosophy to commercial architecture. We shape spaces around the qualitative aspects that make people feel something: atmosphere and mood, storytelling and immersion, and the human experience.
How a space feels to a visitor—the quiet calm of a private dining room, the energy of a bar at full volume, the nostalgia of a familiar material.
The narrative a space tells through its materials, lighting, textures, and thematic details. Every surface is a chance to reinforce the story.
The psychological and emotional impact of the architecture on the people interacting with it. Comfort, curiosity, and a sense of belonging.

Matt Kelly
Matt Kelly created make_ design studios in 2016 with a vision to bring the qualitative aspects of themed environment design into commercial architecture. Initially trained as a drummer touring nationally, Matt's journey to architecture reflects his belief that great design, like great music, requires both technical mastery and creative intuition.
His experience at NBCUniversal Creative, where he contributed to design teams for major attractions including "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley" and Volcano Bay water park, shaped his approach to creating immersive spaces that tell stories.
Matt brings curiosity and energy to every project, treating each as an opportunity to create something that moves people.

“Every space has a story waiting to be told. Our approach is rooted in narrative—before a single line is drawn, we listen.”
