On Wood, Patina, and the Passage of Time
The materials we specify are not finished when they leave our drawings — they finish themselves, slowly, in the hands of the people who live with them.

We specify for year five, not opening night. A material that only looks good clean is a liability in hospitality.
Wear as authorship
Oiled oak, unlacquered brass, and honed stone all record use. The marks are not damage; they are the record of a room being used well.
What not to use
High-gloss surfaces, thin veneers, and coatings that cannot be repaired in place age badly and cannot be maintained by an operator on a Tuesday afternoon.
